Sales consulting / for home service contractors

Sales consulting for contractors, from someone who has sold it

You know the company should be signing more of the work it quotes. You just cannot see where it is slipping, because you are standing inside it.

Sales consulting puts an outside set of eyes on the whole path from first call to signed contract: the appointment, the price conversation, the follow-up, the CRM and who owns what. You get a plain answer about where the money is leaking and what to fix first.

No cost and no pressure. If you do not need a consultant, you will hear that. Or call (352) 612-3327 and ask for Shawn.

Sales consulting from Legacy Sales Engineering is an outside review of how a home service contractor turns leads into signed jobs. Founder Shawn Derrick looks at your appointments, pricing conversation, follow-up, CRM and team structure, finds the biggest leaks, and gives you a prioritized plan to fix them. Available virtually or in person, in all 50 states.

Can you see where the jobs are slipping?

Most owners can tell you how many leads came in last month. Far fewer can tell you where the ones that did not sign were lost.

That is not a discipline problem. It is a visibility problem. When you run the business, you see the calendar, the trucks and the payroll. You do not see what happens forty minutes into an estimate, or which open quotes nobody has followed up on.

A consultant’s job is to make that visible, then tell you the order to fix it in. These are the signs it is time for an outside read.

01Revenue is flat while leads grow

More appointments are not turning into more signed work. Something between the lead and the contract is absorbing the growth.

02You keep discounting to close

If price cuts are the only lever, the conversation before the price is not doing its job. That is fixable, but someone has to find where it breaks.

03Every rep sells differently

Different results by person usually mean there is no shared process, only habits. A consultant can tell you whether you need one designed.

04Open estimates go cold

Quotes sit without a follow-up rhythm. Often the CRM is in place but nobody trusts it, so it is not used.

05You are too close to see it

When you built the company yourself, your way of selling feels obvious. An outside read shows what your team actually hears and does.

What does sales consulting cover?

We look at the whole path a job takes, using your real numbers, real appointments and real follow-up rather than a generic checklist.

You get findings in plain language and a plan in priority order. You can run it yourself or have us help.

7 Steps in the framework

What is the review measured against?

Most contractors do not have a lead problem. They have a handoff problem between the lead and the signed job.

Consulting From the Field

Every review is measured against the same seven-step framework we install for clients, built on Solution Based Questions. That gives the findings a reference point, instead of opinions.

The recommendations stay practical. If the fix is a better follow-up rhythm, you will not be sold a full rebuild. If the fix is a designed process, you will be told that directly.

Who is sales consulting for?

Three kinds of owners get the most from an outside review, and one should spend the money elsewhere.

The plateaued owner

Growing leads, flat revenue

The marketing is working and the calendar is full, but the bank account does not show it. The leak is somewhere between the appointment and the contract, and a review finds it.

The owner stepping back

Handing sales to someone else

You are moving out of the selling seat and need to know what has to be in place first. Consulting tells you what to document, who to hire and what to measure.

The second opinion

Something feels off, and you want it named

You have a sales manager or a process, but results are uneven. An outside read shows whether the issue is the process, the people or the systems.

Not a fit

When you already know the fix

If you already know you need your team trained or a process built, skip the review and start there. Consulting is for when the problem is not clear yet.

How does a consulting engagement start?

Three steps, and the first one costs nothing. You are never asked to buy before anyone understands the business.

Step one

The free evaluation

A 30-minute call about what you sell, how leads become jobs and where you think it breaks. You leave knowing whether a full review is worth it, even when the answer is no.

Step two

The review

We look at your numbers, appointments, estimates, follow-up and CRM, and talk with the people who sell. Then we name the biggest leaks in plain language.

Step three

The plan

You get a prioritized plan. Run it with your own team, or have us install the parts you want, from process engineering and training to CRM and follow-up.

Who does the consulting?

Shawn Derrick founded Legacy Sales Engineering after 25 years in sales, most of it in person, at the kitchen table, across from people spending their own money.

That is the lens on every review. The questions are not about theory. They are about what your people actually say in the room, what the homeowner hears, and what happens to the quote afterward.

Legacy Sales Engineering works with home service contractors in all 50 states. The mission sits on all of it: Stop Selling. Start Solving.

Consulting, process engineering or training?

When you need a diagnosis

Choose consulting when you know results should be better but cannot say exactly why. The review comes first, so you do not pay to fix the wrong thing.

It is also the right start before a big change: a new sales hire, a new market, or the owner stepping out of the selling seat.

When you already know the fix

If the problem is that there is no shared way to sell, that is sales process engineering. If the process exists and people need reps, that is team sales training.

If one person is the constraint, look at one-on-one coaching.

What does sales consulting cost?

Consulting is quoted after the free evaluation, because the scope depends on your team size and how much needs reviewing. There is no number on this page for that reason.

If you would rather hand sales and marketing over entirely, that is The Full Stack, which has an open price.

Questions about sales consulting

What does a sales consultant do for a contractor?

A sales consultant reviews how leads become signed jobs, including booking, the in-home appointment, how price is presented, follow-up and the CRM, then identifies where work is being lost and gives a prioritized plan to fix it.

How is consulting different from sales training?

Consulting diagnoses the problem. Training fixes one specific kind of problem: how people run the appointment. Many reviews end with a training or process recommendation, but some find the issue is follow-up, systems or hiring.

Do you only work with home service businesses?

Legacy Sales Engineering focuses on home service contractors, including HVAC, roofing, electrical, pools, remodeling, flooring and similar trades. If your business is outside that, we will say so on the evaluation call.

Can you consult remotely?

Yes. We are based in Hawthorne, Florida, and work with contractors in all 50 states. Reviews run virtually or in person, depending on what the work needs.

How much does sales consulting cost?

Pricing is quoted after the free 30-minute evaluation, once we understand the size of the team and what needs reviewing. The evaluation itself costs nothing.

Do you also implement the fixes?

If you want us to. You can run the plan with your own team, or have us install parts of it, such as process engineering, team training, CRM setup or lead follow-up.
